SUSTAINABILITY is Our Nature
When Chukar opened in 1988, our founders committed to environmental stewardship with this promise: Chukar® brand fruits would be regionally sourced, crafted with minimal or no added sugar, and free of preservatives or artificial ingredients. Delicious dried fruits and confections with a minimal and clean ingredient list remains our forte.
PACKAGING & PRINT
Biodegradable, compostable, recyclable—these touchstones have guided Chukar since day one. Biodegradable features increase costs significantly, but as more companies and their customers commit to sustainability, the costs will stabilize.
We appreciate you investing in positive change just as we are. Chukar’s current sustainability efforts in packaging and materials include:
- Catalogs printed on FSC certified paper produced from responsibly managed forests
- Carryout bags made from OceanPoly™ (a material that utilizes recycled ocean plastic debris)
- 100% biodegradable, recyclable, compostable: Chocolate cavity trays in our giftboxes and classic tins are 100% biodegradable. Compostable insulated eco-cartons replaced Styrofoam containers.
- New! Chukar just introduced BIOTRE™ biodegradable zip bags for granola and caramel corn
SAFE PRACTICES = SAFE FOOD
The Chukar factory located in Prosser, Washington is committed to rigorous safety and sanitation practices. We gladly adhere to CDC guidelines, FDA Good Manufacturing Practices, USDA Organic standards, and certification oversight by KOF-K Kosher.
CARBON NEUTRAL SHIPPING
When you send a Chukar gift, we offset the carbon footprint
by funding renewable energy projects.
SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITIES
In the late 80’s, Chukar Cherries went searching for exceptional chocolate to complement our dried cherries & nuts. Chukar chose a 6th generation master chocolatier in Burlingame, CA respected for supporting cacao farmers in sound environmental practices and community building.
From our Prosser headquarters in south-central Washington to greater Seattle and Pike Place Market—Chukar supports environmental organizations, access to nutritious food, and youth development. We give food and funds to Boys & Girls Clubs, PikePlaceMarketFoundation.org, NorthwestHarvest.org, ARGOS, and more.
