Poached Pears in Cherry Wine Sauce

Ingredients

  • 4 pears, not quite ripe, peeled with stems intact
  • 1 bottle good quality, robust red wine
  • 3/4 cup cane sugar
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla
  • 1/2 cup a< href=/fruits-and-nuts/dried-cherries-berries/bing-cherries-no-sugar-added6>Chukar® Bing Cherries

Directions

  1. Place pears in saucepan in standing position.
  2. Add sugar, lemon juice, vanilla, cinnamon stick, and ample wine to cover pears. Bring to a boil.
  3. Lower to simmer and cook for 20 minutes, partially covered.
  4. Remove pears and position upright in glass dish.
  5. Add a< href=/fruits-and-nuts/dried-cherries-berries/bing-cherries-no-sugar-added6>Chukar® Bing Cherries to saucepan and simmer to light syrup.
  6. Serve pears at room temperature or chilled, topped with wine sauce.
  7. Cherry Wine Sauce elevates many desserts including ice cream, apple sauce, and pound cake.
